We have lived in the San Diego area for about 10 years now and we had never been to the San Diego fair (Del Mar Fair). One time in college I attempted to go with my roommates. We drove out to Del Mar and traffic was backed up about 2 miles down the freeway to get off at the exit. So we drove on past it think it would be TOO busy and continued on to Disneyland instead. Yeah like that was less crowded. Whatever, we were young.
Well this 4th of July we decided to head out the the SD County Fair with Ethan. What is more American than a county fair. We had a fantastic time.
We took Ethan to the animals first. He was not such a fan of the large cows so daddy had to hold him. But he really enjoyed the goats and the sheep. He loved the little petting zoo they had and kept wanting to go over and pet the sheep.
For years we have heard of the fried foods that are at the fair. Apparently they will deep fry anything. They even had a deep fried chicken sandwich that was made with a Krispy Kreme donut for the bread. Yuck! And no we did not try that one. We did however try the deep fried twinkie (taste the same as a regular twinkie) and then deep fried avocados. They were pretty good, but extremely filling.
We let Ethan try the deep fried avocado. I know not the healthiest thing for a one and a half year old, but hey didn't the doctor tell me to feed him fattening foods to get some bulk on him?!? Oh wait that was healthy fats she wanted him to eat more of; well avocado is a healthy fat but probably not when deep fried. :)
This is a photo of me pushing E in the stroller. I handed off the camera telling him I not in many pictures with our child, people will start to wonder if E has a mom. This is the photo of I got of me and E from the fair. Oh Well.
We had a fantastic time at the fair. We left in late afternoon, we did not want to watch the fireworks with the massive crowds that were starting to show up. So for the evening 4th of July fireworks show we went to our pastors house and watched the fireworks from his backyard (great view). Overall it was a great way to spend America's independence day, celebrating with a county fair.
