So we got to go out to New York this week to visit Shane who we haven't seen in a year and a half, and meet his awesome girlfriend Karen. It was the first time Amanda and I had been to NYC and we had a great time. The weather was crazy, and it rained for about 36 hours the first day and a half we were there, then it stayed cold and cloudy the rest of the time. But we liked it, we got to wear our big coats and drink lots of coffee, (which we never do in San Diego) we felt like we got the real New York experience.
So here's the picture-story version of the trip:
Day 1:
After a 5 hour flight we landed at JFK met up with Shane and Karen and spent the next hour in traffic! If that's not New York, i don't know what is. But we Finialy got out of the city and headed to Connecticut where Karen lives for the first 2 days.
Day 2:
Connecticut was beautiful, and rainy.
Shane and Karen looking longingly out the window.
All we need is some pipes.
Their grocery stores have singing milk cartons, no really this store was like a food version of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Sense it was raining harder than Noah's flood, we stayed in and made pizzas. Papa john's got nothing on us!
Day 3:
The four of us headed to Manhattan. The houses in Connecticut are amazing.
So are the lakes.
Roads were flooded and we had to take detours.
Dunkin Donouts, an east coast must.
Coolest bar ever, O O!Waiting for the train to Grand Central.
We dropped our stuff off at the hotel and hit up Times Square.
There pointing at the Legally Blonde poster, because they're both blonde, get it?
If you don't know how to say "I love you" find some big red letters, that seems to do the trick.
What does every woman love, and every man hate? Yes Shopping, but especially at Tiffany & Co.
Giant Keyboard. Need I say more.
We went to Little Italy and ate at this guy's restaurant, it was Delisious.
Karen and Shane really liked it.
So did our Italian friend. walking around Soho.
You won't find a church like this in San Diego.
The Empire State building.
From the top of the Empire State Building.
Young children turn away.
After a long day of walking, we relaxed at a pub before Karen caught her train back to Connecticut.
On the way back to the hotel we caught a late night comedy club act. There we only like 10 people there and I think Shane and I cracked more jokes then the comedians, but it was fun. Those 2 people in the picture were French and didn't speak English, no one could figure out why they were there.
Shane and Amanda before Shane had to fly back up-state.
Day 4:
It's great wakeing up around noon in one of the biggest cities in America, walking down the street and seeing an ad that your company did! Now everyone go buy a NewCastle.
First things first, food.
Rockefeller Center, it was cool but it was mostly blocked by some flower show, so we took a picture of the sign.
NBC Studios.
Walking to Central Park.
Central Park was amazing, I think we only got through half of it before our legs started giving out.
Then we hoped the subway down to the World Trade Center site. It's mostly just construction, but it was very humbling to see the how big of a void is left.Lady liberty.
This is a sclupture in Battery Park entitled "eyes."
Day 5:
We were actualy able to get up by 10am so we could go to the Museum of Modern Art. They had a really vast collection of famious art.
Picasso.
Van Gogh.
Andy Warhol.
Jackson Pollock.
Monet.
Salvador Dali.
We don't have any pictures from the second half of Day 5 because after the Museum we took a nap (you walk alot in NYC) and then we went to a Broadway Musical and you can't bring cameras in. We went and saw "Legally Blonde" the musical, and I have to admit, it was a lot of fun and way more entertaining then the movie.
Day 6:
Our last day in NYC.
The view from our hotel window.
Our bathroom, the rest of the room isn't much bigger, a true New York space.
We took the Subway to China Town to buy some cheep suviniers before we headed home.
The brooklin Bridge, just south of China Town.
Then we headed to the air port and flew back to San Diego.
That's pretty much it. New York was great and it was good seeing Shane and neeting Karen.
